Referral Agencies: Rhône, Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency (Agreement framework Rhône Basin Zone Workshop - RM&C Water Agency)
1- Guidance in the methodology and operations of the Rhône, Mediterranean and Corsica Water Agency, in order to enable them to understand the sociological problematics related to management of the river.
2- Production of data concerning the perception of the river environment by amateur and professional fishermen (problematics of water and health). A preliminary ethnological survey of approximately 30 fishermen from the territory extending from Villefranche/Saône to Givors is in process. The data from this survey will provide initial information concerning the users’ knowledge and perceptions of various pollutions and the fluvial ecosystem.
(Completion December 2007)

-
A Season for the Rhône; project for an event to promote the culture of the Rhône. September 2007-September 2008. Referral agency: Rhône-Alpes Region
The objective of the Season for the Rhône is to increase the awareness of practices and potential uses of the river resource, through an event which brings together a broad range of users. In presenting the multiple facets of the river, through diverse activities on numerous sites, this event will attempt to promote a discovery of the river as a whole, while at the same time respecting the local characteristics of the fluvial environment.

- « Ethno-historical knowledge of the river bank to river bank imaginary »
Referral institutions: Rhône-Alpes Region and the Ministry of Culture (DRAC Rhône-Alpes)
Is the Rhône river a border or a link? The double approach for this study covers the entire fluvial environment; on one hand, an inventory of the places where the Rhône can be crossed (with the collaboration of the Inventory Service of the Rhône-Alpes Region), and on the other hand an ethnological study focused on the bank to bank With this information, the Region will have a hitherto unpublished tool dedicated to the question of crossing the Rhône.  This tool will be extremely useful for future projects to promote awareness and discovery of the river heritage.
Ethnological Survey: In 2006, a phase to define the methodology was conducted in three « test » communities of the mid-Rône area (Vernaison, Givors, and Vienna).  In 2007-2008, the social and cultural relationships from one river bank to another will studied, atseveral significants sites along the Rhône.
(Restitution 2008).

-  Historic and Cultural Itinerary presenting navigation on the Rhône
Referral Institutions : Région Rhône-Alpes et Drac Rhône-Alpes
All along the river, traces de la formidable story of navigation on the Rhône at different cultural locations emain unknown to the general public.
Through the study of existing collections, the project for a Historic and Cultural Itinerary presenting navigation on the Rhône will promote an itinerary along the river.  Each of the stops and sites along the way (approximately 17 partnerships with museums and heritage sites), will present a technique or a period which reflects the history of the site. (Opening planned for spring/summer 2009, with preliminary work reflecting the project, to be done in 2008.)

- Formulation of a social observatory for the Rhône river. (Part of the GIS –ZABR). Referral agency: Rhône, Mediterranean, Corsica Water Agency
As part of the implementation of water management policies and the Water Directive public consultation, the concerns of scientists and managers today are focused on the effects that the development of certain programs will have on users and on the general population.

As part of a public interest mission, the National Company of the Rhône (C.N.R.) is committed to re-establishing navigation on the High Rhône for tourism. Each crossing (Chautagne, Belley, Bregnier-Cordon) was studied for its socio-economic and environmental impact.
The evaluation was made at three geographical levels; an overall view (Seyssel-Jons), the sub-sector of the High-Rhône (Seyssel-Sault-Brenaz) and the area located near each crossing. An inventory was first completed, followed by an evaluation of impact and measures needed to compensate for and accompany the changes. Cartographical plotting was then done.

- Governing and controlling the Rhône in the metropolitan area
As an observer and actor in evolving river use, the Rhöne River Centre has taken an active role in the political orientations and planning which can guarantee that the multiple vocations of the river are fully developed.
With that perspective in mind, a symposium was organized in March, 2005 : “The metropolitan river; the Rhône in the urban area of Lyon, from the Miribel Jonage Park to the Pilat Regional Natural Park”.  The participants, from local municipalities and institutions, were invited to share their orientations and proposals.
The Proceedings of the symposium , “The metropolitan river; the Rhône in the urban area of Lyon, from the Miribel Jonage Park to the Pilat Regional Natural Park” were a contribution to the call for proposals from the National Scientific Research Center (CNRS) entitled “Territories, environment and new management techniques : questions regarding governance.
